Thin films of molecule-based charge transfer complex cobalt tetracyanoethylene: In situ X-ray photoemission study

► Synthesis of Co(TCNE)x, x ~2 thin films using physics vapor deposition method. ► X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study of Co(TCNE)x, x ~2 thin films. ► XPS reveal charge transfer from Co to TCNE and Co is in +2 valence state. ► The HOMO of Co(TCNE)x film is located at ~2.4 eV with respect to the Fermi level.
