Bistability of bilayer islands under anisotropic misfit stress

► The formation at constant volume of a bilayer island is studied with respect to the one layer-one. ► The bistability regime consisting in the co-existence of both rectangular and square bilayers is investigated. ► The effect of anisotropic stress on the island shape transition is characterized.
