Manipulation of impact feedbacks by using Novel mechanical-adaptor mechanism for UAV undercarriage applications

Landing gear is one of the most critical structures of Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV). Landing operation generates the largest global deceleration (force) on the whole UAV compared with all other applied cases of loading. Due to the strong relationship between the fatigue life of the structure and the global generated force of landing impact, the reaction manipulation in frequent landing cases has an efficient feedback instantaneously and on the long run. Novel design, adaptive energy absorption mechanism, and renovated objectives are combined to produce Piecemeal Energy Absorption Leaf-Spring (PEALS) that acts as UAV undercarriage. PEALS manipulates the interaction between two leaf-spring pieces corresponding to the amount of the Applied Kinetic Energy (AKE) by using a novel mechanical adaptor. Improving the stability as well as reducing more than 40% of the generated force are achieved by PEALS in the frequent landing cases. The implementation of the proposed mechanism provides a framework for the exploration of instantaneous, rapid, and reliable action that are gained by the novel mechanical adaptor.
