Use of [18F]Fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose Positron Emission Tomographic Imaging in the National Lung Screening Trial

PET imaging was differentially used in the NLST and inappropriately used in many cases against radiologist recommendations. These data suggest PET imaging may be overused in the lung cancer screening population and may contribute to excess health-care costs.
