Primitive neuroectodermal tumor of uterus with synchronous in situ squamous cell carcinoma of cervix-A rare tumor with unusual association

Primitive uterine neuroectodermal tumors are rare and their coexistence with squamous cell carcinoma in situ of cervix is not reported till now. We report a case of this dual pathology in 50 year old woman, who presented with a history of postmenopausal vaginal bleeding. Histological and immunohistochemical features after surgical excision suggested the diagnosis of PNET of uterus. Synchronous squamous cell carcinoma in situ of cervix was present. Prognosis of primary PNET of uterus is poor thus it is important to recognize these tumors to facilitate a rapid diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Since no literature is available on coexistent squamous cell carcinoma of cervix, further documentation of such cases is required to find any causal relationship between the two.
