Le patient diabétique en milieu de travail : étude à propos d'une cohorte de 302 patients diabétiques au Maroc

Patients' mean age was 40.2 ± 9.6 years; 62.6% of them being type 2 diabetics. Mean duration of diabetes was 8.1 ± 3.6 years; 56.3% were on insulin. Among these patients, 20.5% of them hided their disease to their professional entourage; 42.4% performed capillary blood glucose measurements at work. For 17.2% of patients, their work schedule was incompatible with meal times and medication intakes; 18.2% reported hypoglycemia at work; prevalence of absenteeism was 9.3%; 33.8% felt handicapped by their disease, and 15.6% had occupational reclassification because of their diabetes. In multivariate analysis, the predominant factors influencing disease patients' management at work were intense physical load, hypoglycemia, and inadequate work schedule (P<0.01). This study demonstrates that diabetic patients at work do not enjoy a particular handling; hypoglycemia is frequently occurring and can be responsible for professional position changes.
