RésuméL'asthme affecte environ 300 millions de personnes dans le monde. C'est un important problème de santé publique qui concerne tous les âges, du nourrisson aux personnes âgées. Depuis plus de 30 ans, on observe une forte augmentation de sa prévalence dans la plupart des pays du monde, à l'origine d'une forte morbidité et de coûts da santé élevés. La mise au point du global initiative for asthma 2015 (GINA) a pour but d'informer les pneumologues et tous les médecins susceptibles de prendre en charge un patient asthmatique. Elle est également destinée à tous les professionnels de santé et aux familles. Pour information, le lecteur est renvoyé à la mise au point du GINA 2015 « Diagnostic et prise en charge de l'asthme chez les enfants âgés de 5 ans et moins ». Compte tenu du volume des recommandations du GINA (28 pages), cette analyse concerne l'essentiel de ce que l'on doit savoir. Cette mise à jour 2015 aborde successivement : (i) ce que l'on sait sur l'asthme ; (ii) le diagnostic de la maladie ; (iii) l'évaluation de l'asthmatique ; (iv) la prise en charge de l'asthme ; (v) les exacerbations. Asthma now affects about 300 million people our world. This important public health problem concerns people of all ages, from young infants to elderly people. Since more than 30 years, there has been an important increase in the prevalence of asthma in most parts of the world, and this has led to much more poor health and greater health expenditures. The updated Global initiative for asthma (GINA) 2015 is meant to be of interest to pneumologists and all physicians who are likely to treat asthmatic patients, but it is equally aimed at all health professionals and to patients' families. Those with a particular interest are directed to the section of GINA 2015 on “Diagnosis and management of asthma in children less than 6 years of age”. Considering the large number of recommendations in GINA 2015 (28 pages), the present analysis concerns only the essence of what one should know. It considers in sequence: (i) much of what is known about asthma; (ii) the diagnosis of asthma; (iii) evaluation of the asthmatic; (iv) management of the asthmatic patient; and (v) asthma exacerbations. A glossary of anti-asthmatic drugs is given at the end of the document.
