CONSIDERACIONES FARMACOLÓGICAS GENERALES Y PARTICULARES EN CUIDADOS INTENSIVOS

The proper administration of drugs in critically ill patients is an ongoing challenge for the intensive care team. This is determined by factors derived from the patient, such as their profound metabolic and pathophysiological changes, which alter the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of drugs; and the complexity of the intensive care unit, as determined by the multiplicity of drugs delivered and their extreme fragility, exposing the patient to a high probability of error. For all the above, in critical care it is essential to use strategies to control the effect of the drug and reduce the error. These strategies are the use of plasma levels, use of clinical goals, and permanent monitoring of possible adverse drug reactions. The role of clinical pharmacy professionals is essential in this context.
