Effect of vitamin E and green tea on hemodynamic, electrocardiographic and some biochemical alterations in experimentally induced myocardial infarction in rats
چکیده انگلیسی

Aim of studyThe present study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective potential of vitamin E (Vit. E) and green tea (GT) on the basis of hemodynamic, electrocardiographic and certain biochemical changes in myocardial infarction induced by isoproterenol (ISO).Materials and methodsMale albino rats were treated with vitamin E (100 mg/kg/day, p.o) and/or GT (100 mg/kg/day, p.o) for a period of 30 days. ISO (200 mg/kg, s.c) was injected to rats on 29th and 30th day at an interval of 24 h for 2 days to produce myocardial injury. On day 31st hemodynamic, electrocardiographic and biochemical alterations were monitored from control and experimental groups.ResultsISO injected rats showed a significant (P < 0.001) increase in C-reactive protein, myloperoxidase and nitrite levels. In addition, it also exhibited electrocardiographic and hemodynamic changes (i.e. systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure). Levels of the electrolytes (Na+, K+ and Ca++) and LDH isoenzyme pattern were also altered in ISO treated rats. Treatment with Vit. E alone and its co-administration with GT significantly (P < 0.001) decreased the elevated C-reactive protein, myloperoxidase and nitrite levels. The ECG and hemodynamic changes brought to the near normal values. Further the combined treatment maintains the electrolytes and LDH isoenzyme pattern towards normal.ConclusionThe present study showed that co-administration of vitamin E and GT in ISO injected rats significantly restores the electrocardiographic, hemodynamic and biochemical parameters.
