Alpha-lipoic acid attenuates cardiac hypertrophy via downregulation of PARP-2 and subsequent activation of SIRT-1

Brief summary: We sought to investigate the effect of ALA to ameliorate cardiac hypertrophy and to further clarify the intrinsic molecular mechanisms. The results showed that ALA significantly inhibits cardiac hypertrophy induced by Ang II (in vitro) or pressure over-load (in vivo). ALA effectively suppressed the upregulation of PARP-2 and thereby promotes SIRT1 activation, leading to the inhibition of hypertrophic responses.97
