Korean red ginseng (Panax ginseng) prevents obesity by inhibiting angiogenesis in high fat diet-induced obese C57BL/6J mice

► Ginseng reduced body weight, adipose tissue mass and adipocyte size, but not food intake in high fat diet-fed obese mice. ► Ginseng decreased blood vessel density and MMP activities in adipose tissue. ► The expression of angiogenic factors, MMPs, and their inhibitors in adipose tissue was markedly modulated by ginseng. ► Ginseng may prevent adipose tissue growth and obesity by inhibiting adipose tissue angiogenesis.
