► The rhizomes of Drynaria quercifolia are used in Tamil Nadu to treat rheumatism. ► Treatment with D. quercifolia reduced the paw thickness of arthritic animals. ► The treatment reduced protein bound carbohydrates and urinary collagen levels. ► The treatment reduced the ROS and lysosomal enzyme levels in the neutrophils. ► The treatment reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
