Transcellular transport of domoic acid across intestinal Caco-2 cell monolayers

► Caco-2 cells were used as a model of the intestinal absorption of domoic acid. ► An anion exchange inhibitor inhibited the uptake of domoic acid in Caco-2 cells. ► The absorption of domoic acid may be mediated by anion exchange transporters.
