Transforming growth factor-β regulates the expression of anosmin (KAL-1) in human retinal pigment epithelial cells

► Anosmin-1 is an extracellular matrix protein important in the migration of olfactory neurons in embryogenesis. ► Our experiments demonstrate that TGF-β upregulates anosmin-1 in human ocular tissues. ► This finding has significance in diseases such as macular degeneration where TGF-β plays a critical role.
