Paraneoplastic syndrome in mice bearing high-angiogenic variant of Lewis lung carcinoma: Relations with tumor derived VEGF

► High (LLC/R9) and low (LLC) angiogenic variants of Lewis lung carcinoma were used in the study. ► LLC/R9 was characterized by higher rate of VEGF secretion in vitro and elevated level of plasma VEGF in vivo as compared to LLC. ► Paraneoplastic hematological syndrome was observed in LLC/R9-bearing mice. ► The signs of the syndrome were expressed at early stages of tumor growth. ► These precocious signs may be considered as early markers of high angiogenic potential of the tumor.
