Cytokines profile in serum of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is changed by LDL-apheresis

► The effects of LDL-apheresis on plasma cytokines in severe hypercholesterolemia were evaluated. ► HozFH patients with/without pre-existing CHD and AVD were treated with LDL-apheresis. ► Plasma pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines were measured before and after LDL-apheresis. ► The observed cytokines changes are probably due to a direct/indirect effect of LDL-apheresis. ► LDL-apheresis induced anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic changes in cytokines profile.
