Culture-based study of endophytes associated with rubber trees in Peru reveals a new class of Pezizomycotina: Xylonomycetes

► Using culture based methods we detected a new class of Ascomycota. ► The new class of Ascomycota has been described as Xylonomycetes. ► This new lineage has distinctive morphological, ecological, and molecular characters. ► This new class represents a deep node in the radiation of Leotiomyceta.
