Diversification in the Mexican horned lizard Phrynosoma orbiculare across a dynamic landscape

► We inferred 11 geographically structured, well supported mitochondrial lineages. ► Six lineages likely diverged during the Neogene, four split during the Pleistocene. ► Diversification rate appeared relatively constant through time. ► Phrynosoma orbiculare probably represents a species complex.
