Diversification in the Andes: Age and origins of South American Heliotropium lineages (Heliotropiaceae, Boraginales)

►We estimate divergence times for the major clades of South American Heliotropium. ► We estimate ancestral areas with a maximum likelihood approach. ► Clades originated in the Andes diversified during the late Miocene. ► Results support a rapid uplift of the Andes during the late Miocene.
