Phylogenetic relationships of rock-wallabies, Petrogale (Marsupialia: Macropodidae) and their biogeographic history within Australia

► Four major lineages within Petrogale, three contain ancestral karyotype (2n = 22). ► Petrogale concinna part of the genus Petrogale (not Peradorcas concinna). ► Petrogale brachyotis is paraphyletic, need to resolve brachyotis group relationships. ► Late Miocene, Plio-Pleistocene climatic changes associated with diversification. ► Ancestral Petrogale originated from a mesic environment.
