Temporal and spatial diversification of Pteroglossus araçaris (AVES: Ramphastidae) in the neotropics: Constant rate of diversification does not support an increase in radiation during the Pleistocene

► Pteroglossus has four main groups: viridis, torquatus, aracari and bitorquatus. ► Amazon/Atlantic forest splits occurred multiple times in the past in various groups. ► Pteroglossus Amazon/Andes split concords with Andean orogeny as a vicariance event. ► Constant rate of speciation without extinction models fits the Pteroglossus data best. ► Falsifies hypothesis of increased diversification during the Pleistocene.
