► Chronic high-fat diet impairs the anorexic responses to low doses of GLP-1 and Ex4. ► 4 weeks of high-fat diet reduces baseline plasma GLP-1 levels. ► GLP-1 receptor blockade paradoxically reduces intake in high-fat-maintained rats. ► Impaired satiety response to GLP-1 may cause overconsumption of high-fat food.
