The normal acid-base status of mice

► We characterize arterial acid-base status of conscious mice with indwelling carotid catheters. ► Mice had typical mammalian in vitro CO2 dissociation curves and non-bicarbonate buffer capacity. ► While the arterial pH of mice resemble other mammals arterial PCO2 is lower than larger mammals.
