Assessment of electroencephalographic functional connectivity in term and preterm neonates

► Changes with the conceptional and the chronological age in EEG functional connectivity of human neonates are studied for the first time using phase synchronization indexes. ► The between-group differences were observed only in the delta and alpha EEG frequency bands. ► Chronological age and conceptional age produce different effects on the interdependence between EEG channels, and this suggests that brain maturation in neonates must be studied with a wide range of indexes that are able to track these effects in the EEG.
