The prevalence of pseudoxanthoma elasticum-like connective tissue changes in an oral biopsy service and review of the literature

The overall prevalence of PXE-like connective tissue changes found in routine oral mucosal biopsy specimens (9.8%) was much higher than either the suspected prevalence of PXE (0.001%-0.004%) or the estimated prevalence of the mutated gene ABCC6 (0.625%-1.25%).
