A methodology for the modelling of the variability of brake lining surfaces

► Pads show a high variability (structural, topographical, tribological). ► Surfaces are statistically studied for different wear states. ► Stochastic processes are used to model the contact surfaces. ► Random fields and contact laws allow to compute realistic pressure distributions. ► Friction law with pressure, temperature and velocity dependencies is proposed.
