Detection of PAX8 and p53 is beneficial in recognizing metastatic carcinomas in pelvic washings, especially in cases with suspicious cytology

► Immunoreactivity for PAX8 and p53 was found in pelvic washings cell blocks with positive cytology and suspicious cytology. ► Three phenotypes were showed in the group with positive cytology and suspicious cytology, respectively. ► Our data suggests the Müllerian origin of metastatic carcinomas with positive PAX8 expression.
