Multi-limb acquisition of motor evoked potentials and its application in spinal cord injury

▶ A novel multi-limb acquisition of MEP in rats demonstrated that Isoflurane (gas) anesthesia severely suppresses MEP; while Ketamine (IP) anesthesia may not. ▶ A comparison of two existing modes of stimulation showed that low frequency stimulation of motor cortex invokes more reliable and less variable MEP. ▶ The novel set-up can be an important tool in development of rat models of nervous system injuries such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis etc.
