Fundamental interstrain differences in cortical activity between Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rats during global ischemia

► Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rats display interstrain differences in ischemic responses. ► Following 4VO, the FB and BSR values of the two strains differed considerably. ► The power spectrum of Sprague-Dawley rats was similar pre- and post-4VO. ► Evans Blue, Cresyl Violet and Fluoro Jade C stainings supplement ECoG data. ► Damage to the CA1 pyramids was severe in Wistar rats, but only partial in SD rats.
