Effect of unilateral subthalamic deep brain stimulation on rat digestive motor activity

▶Subthalamic stimulation (STNs) increased colonic activity in anesthetized rat. ▶STNs increased c-Fos protein expression in nuclei that governed gut motility. ▶Muscarinic and dopaminergic antagonists prevented the increase of colonic activity. ▶STNs did not impact on gastric or distal colonic activity.
