Posterior hypothalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation restores locomotion in rats with haloperidol-induced akinesia but not skilled forelimb use in pellet reaching and lever pressing

▶Skilled forelimb use was examined in the context of PH stimulation. ▶PH stimulation was applied to haloperidol- or vehicle-treated animals. ▶PH stimulation restores locomotion but disrupts skilled forelimb use. ▶Dorsal border of the PH appears to be the best site for eliciting locomotion. ▶PH stimulation reverses akinesia, but not skilled forelimb use in learned behavior.
