From gestures to words: Spontaneous verbal labeling of complex sequential hand movements reduces fMRI activation of the imitation-related regions

► We investigate the neural substrates involved in verbal labeling of hand movements. ► With verbal labels, neuronal activity in IFG, MFG, PCG, and AG decreases. ► Verbal labeling seems to reduce the cost of the cortical activation.
