A comprehensive approach to determine the probiotic potential of human-derived Lactobacillus for industrial use

► MRS-LP was an adequate selective media for enumeration of strains. ► Cheese whey, buttermilk and milk were suitable for the propagation and conservation of strains. ► Strains were resistant to simulated gastrointestinal digestion in acidified milk. ► Lactobacillus rhamnosus 64 and Lactobacillus gasseri 37 were sensitive to five antibiotics assayed. ► Oral administration to mice induced the proliferation of IgA producing cells at the gut mucosa.
