Assessing urban environmental segregation (UES). The case of Santiago de Chile

► A set of quantitative indicators describes urban environmental segregation (UES). ► The combined approach of indicators for social segregation and urban environment works very well to assess UES. ► Land-use dynamics in Santiago produce a higher urban complexity and fragmentation. ► The intra-municipal UES exists in close proximity. ► The urban environmental indicator “urban green spaces” is strongly differentiated between social groups. ► Social segregation is accompanied by unequal distribution of environmental features. ► Flood risk is stronger on poorer population due to less mitigation measures.
