Fragmentation of Cry1Ab protein from Bt-maize (MON810) through the gut of the earthworm species Lumbricus terrestris L.

► This is the first study in which the fate of CrylAb protein was analysed in samples of different gut compartments separately: foregut, midgut, and hindgut. ► Additionally, we investigated the concentration of CrylAb in these samples by using DAS-ELISA. ► Cry1Ab protein was fragmented through the digestive system of Lumbricus terrestris (l.). ► The foregut can be localized to be the most important compartment for the fate of Cry1Ab protein during digestion.
