Dynamics of metal uptake and depuration in a parasitized cyprinid fish (Rastrineobola argentea)

► Infestation of fish by endoparasites may influence metal uptake and elimination by the host. ► We quantify metal uptake rate constant (ku) and efflux rate constants (ke) of radiolabeled Cd and Co in parasitzed fish. ► ku for Cd was higher in infected than in uninfected fish, while the ku for Co was higher in uninfected fish. ► ke for Cd was higher in uninfected fish, while the ke for Co was higher in infected than in uninfected fish. ► Parasite infection enhances Cd accumulation, but depletes Co in the cyprinid fish.
