Exposure-dose-response of Anadara trapezia to metal contaminated estuarine sediments

► We describe an exposure-dose-response assessment of sediment selenium exposure in A. trapezia. ► Elevated sediment selenium concentrations may impair estuarine ecosystem health. ► A. trapezia showed limited selenium detoxification capacity. ► Most tissue selenium was in cell debris or was biologically active selenium. ► Increased selenium dose impaired antioxidant systems, lysosomes and nuclei.
