On Shapiroʼs Catalan convolution

L. Shapiro found an elegant formula for the self-convolution of the even subscripted terms in the Catalan sequence. This paper provides a natural q-analog of Shapiroʼs formula together with three proofs, one of which is purely combinatorial.
