Effects of oxalate and phosphate on electrokinetic removal of arsenic from mine tailings

► Arsenic was separated from mine tailings waste using an electrokinetic process. ► 30-48% of As was removed near the anode, but accumulation was found in the middle. ► Equilibrium modeling revealed the influence of oxalate and phosphate solutions on arsenic desorption and electromigration. ► Mobilization of Fe oxohydroxides and other arsenic-bearing minerals was critical to arsenic removal.
