A new method for obtaining nickel metal from the hyperaccumulator plant Alyssum murale

► Nickel was solubilized from the hyperaccumulating plant Alyssum murale. ► Direct selective nickel precipitation of the solubilized nickel was not possible. ► Solvent extraction (cyanex 272) and electroplating allowed a nickel recovery of 72%. ► This hydrometallurgical process is ready to be up scaled.
