Lands at risk: Land use/land cover change in two contrasting tropical dry regions of Mexico

- We analysed land use/cover change in two contrasting sites dominated by tropical dry ecosystems in Mexico.
- Agriculture, induced pastures and human settlements expanded in both study sites at the expense of primary vegetation.
- Rates and multitemporal pathways of change differed between sites, as a result of contrasting geographic contexts.
- Main drivers were: agriculture expansion in the Oaxacan site, and urbanisation in the Morelos site.
- Pathways of change in Oaxaca reflect agriculture-fallow cycles, and a linear route towards urbanisation in Morelos.
