Liquid carbon dioxide jets for cutting applications

► We investigated the capability of high pressure CO2 jets for cutting applications. ► Pre-expansion pressures up to 1600 bar were realized. ► Post-expansion conditions are above the triple-point pressure of CO2. ► Material samples such as wood, aluminum and polycarbonate could be penetrated. ► Impact increases dramatically using elevated pressure downstream the nozzle.
