Expanded ethanol with CO2 and pressurized ethyl lactate to obtain fractions enriched in γ-Linolenic Acid from Arthrospira platensis (Spirulina)

► Ethyl lactate PLE and CO2:ethanol gas expanded liquids were tested as polar lipid extraction techniques. ► Chemometric optimization was used to obtain statistical models to predict responses optima. ► Temperature increased yield but decreased selectivity in PLE. ► For gas-expanded liquid (GXL) extractions main parameters were ethanol% and extraction time. ► GXL extraction has been used for the first time in natural products extraction.
