Study on gas/solid flow in an obstructed pulmonary airway with transient flow based on CFD-DPM approach

► Gas/solid flow behavior was simulated in a COPD affected four generation airway. ► Air flow field and particle deposition of cyclic inlet are different from steady one. ► COPD patient may suffer more from oxygen deficiency than steady inlet simulation. ► The deposition pattern of unsteady inhalation is more dispersed. ► The simulated deposition efficiency with unsteady inlet may be more appropriate.
