Numerical simulation of buoyancy-driven turbulent ventilation in attic space under winter conditions

▸ The v2f model is used to analyze turbulent air flow and heat transfer in attic. ▸ We evaluated impact of various roof designs on heating load and ice dam formation. ▸ The simulation results show symmetrical air flow patterns in a vented attic. ▸ Increasing vent size barely affects the attic heating load. ▸ Enough ventilation and insulation are needed for the proper functions of an attic.
