Milling and handling Cynara Cardunculus L. for use as solid biofuel: Experimental tests

► Three preparations of cynara are used: pellets, and crushed stems or the whole plant. ► Grinding is evaluated for particle size, densification, moisture and energy requirement. ► Tendency to bridge and sieving are evaluated. ► The grinding process significantly improves the handling behaviour. ► Hairs from capitula originate serious problems. Separating capitula is recommended.
