Classification of power system disturbances using linear Kalman filter and fuzzy-expert system

► A new approach based on DWT, linear Kalman filter and fuzzy expert system for classifying PQ disturbances is presented. ► DWT is used to enhance the performance of Kalman filter. ► Kalman filter is used to extract two parameters (amplitude and slope of amplitude) from the distorted waveform. ► Fuzzy expert is applied with 10 rules on the two parameters to classify the disturbance in the distorted waveform. ► Several simulation and practical data are used to validate the proposed technique.
