A refined sinus plate finite element for laminated and sandwich structures under mechanical and thermomechanical loads

► A C1 6-node triangular finite element for multilayered composite plates submitted to mechanical and thermomechanical loads is presented. ► The approach is based on a sinus model with layer refinement including the transverse normal effect. ► This FE has no numerical pathology (shear locking, spurious modes, etc.). ► Mechanical/thermomechanical tests for thin/thick laminated and sandwich plates show the very good capability of this approach.
