Discrepancies between knowledge and practice of childhood motor vehicle occupant safety in Nova Scotia-A population-based study

► Parents' knowledge of stages of childhood motor vehicle restraints is good but knowledge of when to graduate from one system to the next is low. ► Discrepancies between knowledge and practice are seen with all stages of restraints, especially booster seats, resulting in premature graduation from stages, non-use of booster seats and allowing children to ride in the front seat. ► Associations between lower socioeconomic status and lack of comprehensive legislation, and discrepant practices, suggest areas to target with educational and policy campaigns.
