Surface charge and wetting characteristics of layered silicate minerals

► Recent results on the surface characteristics of layered silicates are reviewed. ► The charging behavior of the talc and muscovite edge surfaces is discussed. ► Surface potentials of the kaolinite silica face and the alumina face are presented. ► Hydrophobicity for the kaolinite silica face is demonstrated from AFM results.
